What is Lemuria?
Lemuria. A modern term first used by some naturalists, and now adopted by Theosophists, to indicate a continent that,
according to the Secret Doctrine of the East, preceded Atlantis. Its Eastern name would not reveal much to European ears.
[Lemuria was an ancient and gigantic continent, before Africa and Atlantis. It was destroyed by earthquakes and underground fires, and
submerged at the bottom of the ocean for a few million years, leaving only as a reminder of it several peaks
of its highest mountains, which are now many other islands, including the so-called Easter Island,
Famous for its gigantic statues.
This vast continent comprised southern Africa, Madagascar, Ceylon, Sumatra,
Indian Ocean, Australia, New Zealand, extending to much of the southern Pacific Ocean. It was the cradle and
residence of the third Mother-Race, that is, of the primitive physical and sexual humanity, which in those ancient times
